– PAUSING –

When you talk you usually run some words and word groups together. But often you will have to STOP, to PAUSE, to make sense.

Examples:

  1. This city is Kansas City. (no PAUSE)

  2. This city (pause) Kansas City (pause) is large.
Usually written: This city, Kansas City, is large.
Punctuation marks like the comma ( , ) usually tell us where to pause.
