After about four years, I developed an interest in Latin. So I proceeded to learn it with the same enthusiasm that I took to learning English. Eventually I got to the point that I was pretty good at it.
I even translated a poem of the Roman poet, Ovid. When Mrs. Wheatley found that out she seemed surprised-shocked even. She started talking to her friends about me. And would invite them over to meet me and show them my progress.
They all seemed so amazed that a child of Africa could make these achievements. They began to insist that my translation of the poem be published, so it could be shown to others.
