From what I can tell, I was born around 1754 on the west coast of Africa-somewhere around the Senegambia area. I was about seven years old when I was kidnapped and placed in a holding area for Africans to be shipped to America.

I don't remember too much, but I was put in a cramped area of a slave ship along with about 70 or 80 other girls. My health suffered as a result. It must have been what they call a loose pack (no more than 80 slaves) rather than a tight pack (as many as 150 slaves), or else I probably would not have made it. That trip across the ocean is referred to as the "middle passage."

The one memory I have of my mother is that of her pouring out water each morning as she prostrated herself before the rising sun.
