I thought about running away but I didn't know how to reach Master Brodas' plantation. One morning while I was waiting to take care of the baby, Miss Susan got into an argument with her husband. I saw some lumps of sugar on the table. I had never had anything sweet and that sugar so look good to me. So I stuck my fingers in the bowl to get some. And just as I did, Miss Susan turned around and saw me. When she reached for that rawhide whip, I jumped through the door and started to run.
They ran after me, but I was just too fast. I ran and ran until I saw that they weren't in sight. But I kept moving and whenever I thought about going back and the punishment I might get, I started running again. I finally came across a big pigpen with a big old sow and about ten little pigs in it. I was so tire that I just tumbled into it. That was on a Friday. I had to fight the little pigs for the food that came down through the trough. I was afraid of that old mother pig who would push me away whenever I tried to get some of her baby's food. By Tuesday I was so starved that I had no choice but to go back and face whatever punishment I might get.
