My grandmother meant all the world to me. She was well thought of by most everyone. She was a good nurse, and well known for making fishing nets and for her gardening. She was known for her ability to keep sweet potato seedlings through the winter months. And folks from all around would ask for grandmother Betsey to plant her seeds for their gardens. It was believed that her touch was needed to make them grow. If they had a good crop they would repay her by giving her a share of what they grew. This was good for Grandmamma and the children she took care of.
