Mr. Frost mainly taught the students numbers and the alphabet. There were just to many students to go into much dept in any subject. Actually I already knew what was being taught there. However, I still attended.
One of the things Mr. Frost would instill in us was to defer to whites in order to stay out of trouble. Once again I was warned not to look them in the eye unless I was told to so. I couldn't understand why we had to be so meek and humble. Uncle Mose had said that I was free and had the right to be different. However, Aunt Mariah told me that I could find my answers in church. She and Uncle Andy, by the way, insisted that I not only go to their African Methodist Episcopal Church's Sunday school, but to church also. There I learned that being meek was advised by Jesus, as was turning the other cheek. I learned not to crave material things and that God would provide my needs.
