For about a year, I thought and prayed long and hard about going to school in Neosho.

What was I to make of this? Were the three cornstalks symbolic of the three crosses of Cavalry? Was the carved melon symbolic of the Christ's sacrifice? Surely that pocketknife must have been a sign that God would be with me!

I was about eleven years old at the time and became more determined than ever to go to Neosho.

The day I left, Aunt Sue packed me some food. When I got there it was late in the evening and I need a place to stay. I found a barn near the school and climbed up into the loft and spent the night there.
