For about a year, I thought and prayed long and hard about going to school in Neosho.

I thought about the Biblical parable of the three servants who had been given talents. Two of them did things to gain earnings from theirs, whereas the third simply buried his and returned it to his master. And for that, God took his talent away from him. I felt as if the farm was Uncle Mose's talent and if I stayed there I would be giving my talent to him rather than expanding it for a greater good.

I asked God for a sign. Now one of the things I really wanted was a pocketknife. One night I dreamed of a pocketknife lying at the base of three corn stalks. The next day I went to the area of the farm in my dream. And, lo and behold, there was a partly carved watermelon with a pocketknife still stuck in it lying beside three cornstalks.
