I played simple games as a child; like baseball, running, jumping, swimming and checkers. But what I really enjoyed was the time I spent in the woods gathering those beautiful plants. I would really feel bad whenever I broke off a root of one of my "babies" while trying to dig one up to replant. In general, though, I seemed to have a good touch with plants. They seemed to thrive well under my care. I really enjoyed working with them. They simply fascinated me. I remember on day when Uncle Mose mentioned to me that something was wrong with one of his trees. I climbed up into the tree and found a branch that was full of worms. I suggested that the limb be sawed off. The tree recovered. And I soon ended up being referred as the "plant doctor."
