The kept studying that watch until it came to me about making a larger one of wood. I had made a sundial to keep track of time before, but nothing like this.

I worked for months on that wooden clock. I didn't let anyone in my house during that time. It is needless to say that my farm work went lacking also. When I finally finished the clock, my dad seemed more excited than everybody. Others in the neighborhood seemed to marvel at my success. People would come from all around to see the clock that I had made.

But for me, the most important thing that happened was the reawakening of my interest and curiosity in science and astronomy. I began to study the stars at night, often lying on the ground outside my house whenever the weather was good enough. My interest in science and the cosmos continued from that point on. And I developed an even greater appreciation of the mystical stories of the cosmos that my grandfather, the Dogon Prince told to Big Mama, that she fondly passed on to me.
