My parents moved in with Big Mama. She welcomed the extra hands as she was getting up in age. While my father was becoming good at managing the farm, my mother was becoming well known for her skills with herbal medicine.

This was the farm on which I was born in 1731. It prospered well enough for my parents to save enough money to purchase a 25-acre farm of their own nearby. Because it was densely wooded, it was called "Timber Point."

While my parents worked both farms, we continued to live at Big Mama's. Those were happy times back then. All of Big Mama's children were grown. But my parents had four girls in addition to me and that filled our home with another generation of young voices.
