After a long and eventful journey, I reached Hampton with little or no fanfare. The very sight of that beautiful three-story building made it all worth while.
As soon as possible I presented myself to be assigned to class. After having gone a while without food, a bath and a change of clothes, I must have been a pitiful sight. I could tell they had doubts as to my worthiness.
I became uneasy after watching them admit other students. I felt that I could do just as well as they could, if I was only given a chance.
After some hours passed the head teacher said to me: "The adjoining recitation-room needs sweeping. Take the broom and sweep it."
I knew at once that this was my chance.
